The demand for rapid, reliable, and high-quality releases has never been more critical in modern times. To meet these demands, test automation tools have emerged, transforming traditional testing processes and significantly enhancing efficiency in the development lifecycle.

Manual testing, while essential, can be time-consuming and prone to human error. As software projects grow in complexity, the repetitive nature of manual testing becomes a bottleneck, hindering the pace of development. This is where automation steps in.

Before diving into automation, developing a comprehensive test plan is crucial. A well-thought-out strategy ensures that automation efforts are targeted and aligned with project goals, and choosing the right automation tool is also pivotal. Various tools cater to different needs, whether functional, performance, or security testing.

Establishing a robust testing framework, including guidelines for script organization, data management, and reporting, contributes to the maintainability and scalability of the automation suite. Here are the advantages of test automation with supportive tools:

Increased Speed and Efficiency

One of the primary advantages of software testing automation is speed. Automated tests can be executed much faster than their manual counterparts. This acceleration is particularly beneficial in scenarios where quick feedback on code changes is crucial. Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Deployment (CD) pipelines are seamlessly integrated with automated testing, ensuring that every code commit undergoes a battery of tests before reaching production.

Repeatability and Consistency

Automation ensures that tests are executed consistently every time, eliminating the variability associated with manual testing. This repeatability is crucial for accurately assessing the impact of code changes and maintaining a reliable baseline for software quality.

Increased Test Coverage

Automation allows for the creation and execution of many tests covering different aspects of an application. This extensive test coverage helps identify bugs and issues that may not be immediately apparent, providing a comprehensive evaluation of the software’s functionality.

Resource Optimization

Manual testing often requires a significant investment in human resources. Automation allows teams to redirect their efforts towards more complex and creative aspects of testing, such as designing robust test scenarios, analyzing results, and addressing critical issues, rather than spending time on repetitive, mundane tasks.

As software evolves, so do its features and functionalities. Maintaining automated tests to align with these changes is an ongoing challenge. Furthermore, adopting automation requires an initial investment in terms of time, resources, and training. Still, the long-term benefits in terms of accelerated development cycles and improved software quality far outweigh this initial investment. Also, not all test cases are suitable for automation. High-value, repetitive, and stable test cases are ideal candidates for automation. Striking the right balance between automated and manual testing is essential for a holistic testing approach.

In conclusion, a strategic and well-implemented approach to automation can transform the testing process, enabling organizations to deliver robust and reliable software solutions in today’s fast-paced digital environment. Software testing automation has become an indispensable element in modern software development. Its ability to enhance speed, efficiency, and reliability allows development teams to meet the ever-increasing demands for high-quality software. Embracing software testing automation isn’t just a choice; it’s a necessity for those aiming to stay competitive and innovative in the dynamic world of software development.

Vladimir Okhotnikov: SEC threatens ETH, opening up new opportunities in the DeFi market

SEC-ETH-De-Fi-1-1280-720

If the SEC Recognizes ETH as a Security, Then There Is Already an Alternative in the DeFi Market Opinion of Vladimir Okhotnikov

Bitcoin, which does not support complex programming languages, could not support the blockchain evolution. Today, cryptocurrency supporters are eagerly awaiting the development of DeFi applications based on this ecosystem. However, the question arises: what is the reason why Bitcoin is not ready to scale?

Without Vitalik Buterin, we would not have known that it is possible to build decentralized finance on the blockchain. Or rather, we would have found out about it later. It took the young guy only 4 years to describe the work of the future blockchain, which would solve several issues at once: scaling, launching DApps, automated and trouble-free execution of algorithms. And another two years were needed to launch the blockchain itself.

Buterin, along with his colleagues Gavin Wood, Charles Hoskins, Anthony Di Lorio and Joseph Lubin, successfully realized their vision and exceeded the expectations of many. Today, decentralized applications (DApps), decentralized finance services (DeFi), non-fungible tokens (NFTs), decentralized exchanges (DEX) and other cryptocurrencies, as well as metaverses are being actively developed on the Ethereum blockchain,” emphasized Vladimir Okhotnikov.

Vladimir Okhotnikov is an author of analytical articles, an expert in the field of cryptocurrencies, and an active supporter of decentralized governance. He believes in the promise of blockchain and is convinced that cryptocurrency will soon be accepted almost everywhere, that it will lead to revolutionary changes. The analyst also sees the potential of technology in creating innovative models that can be used to create functions similar to those provided by the state.

The hype is over Vladimir Okhotnikov on the adoption of ETFs

The euphory seems to have gone and even the price of bitcoin at $50 000 does not look so tempting. The impending halving is also not generating much interest. With the launch of exchange-traded funds in the US that invest directly in Bitcoin, its fans are looking forward to new prospects.

What could further encourage investors to invest in Bitcoin? Of course, new solutions for scaling.

When Lightning Labs first launched the Lightning Network for Bitcoin in 2018, it generated enormous interest. The purpose of the protocol running on top of the Bitcoin blockchain is to speed up and reduce the cost of cryptocurrency transactions.

However, over time, interest in the Lightning Network has waned. Users were concerned about the difficulty of use and the risk of losing funds due to errors. In addition, fees on the Bitcoin network itself have decreased, making the benefits of Lightning less obvious.

Rumors soon began to spread about unsuccessful transactions with Litecoin, which undermined confidence in the new technology. And what previously seemed like the next big thing suddenly became doubtful. Users have complained about liquidity issues and security vulnerabilities in the Lightning Network, creating the impression that it is complex and unreliable.

Even the halving did not help – on August 2, 2023, on the Litecoin network, miners observed another halving of the reward. However, the halving goal was never achieved. The opposite happened: the pace of LTC mining slowed down, which seemed to lead to a supply shortage and an increase in price. However, the value of the asset only fell from $82 to $56, after which the cryptocurrency found itself stuck in a tight sideways trend without a significant update in the highs and lows.

Meanwhile, at the time of the founding of Lightning Labs, the developers managed to attract $82.5 million in investments to scale the blockchain. When Polygon, one of the leading Layer 2 protocols for Ethereum, raised about $450 million in its latest funding round, this created the impression that the Bitcoin blockchain is incapable of expanding and building a DeFi market on it.

The surge in NFTs on the Bitcoin blockchain caused an overload users were forced to pay high fees to miners

At the end of last year, the number of unconfirmed transactions in the Bitcoin mempool (transaction waiting area) jumped sharply, which led to an increase in the cost of commissions. And users were willing to pay more for priority data processing, but, alas, this did not increase the speed.

In December 2023, the average transaction fee on the Bitcoin network rose to almost $38. In January, during the first four weeks, this figure stabilized and settled at just above $9. At the same time, the highest commission was observed on January 2, when the average cost of a transfer reached $17.32.

Indeed, in the fourth quarter, Bitcoin transaction fees reached levels seen in early 2021, when Bitcoin crossed the $60,000 mark for the first time.

At the same time, shares of mining companies Marathon and Riot rose in price by 500% and 400%, respectively.

It is estimated that miners earned $170 million in fees in December, which amounted to 20% of total rewards. And for the entire quarter, fee income reached $328 million.

The growth of activity in the Bitcoin network provides miners with additional income from commissions in addition to rewards for mined blocks. This has a positive effect on the financial performance of the mining business,” explained crypto expert Vladimir Okhotnikov.

The only explanation for the hype around Bitcoin is the leaked news that not only cryptocurrency, but also NFTs can be sent on the blockchain. However, the Bitcoin blockchain cannot process more than 5-7 transactions per second, which is very little. Hence delays in transfers, increased fees and network congestion.

NFT on the Bitcoin blockchain: Vladimir Okhotnikov shares his impressions of the consequences of the launch of the Ordinals protocol

Vladimir Okhotnikov says that initially the blockchain did not support NFTs. However, three updates introduced integration with non-fungible tokens.

Previously, the Bitcoin network had the ability to record information thanks to the Op_return script. Then the Taproot update improved this Op_Return feature, making transactions smaller and allowing more information to be recorded. The Ordinals protocol assigned each smallest piece of Bitcoin – a Satoshi – its own serial number. This made it possible to attach additional information directly to each Satoshi during transactions.

Thanks to these three improvements, it is now possible to attach data directly to individual pieces of Bitcoin – Satoshi. Thus, it became possible to create something like an NFT with a volume of up to 0.4 MB on Bitcoin”, noted Vladimir Okhotnikov.

Bitcoin NFTs are added directly to the network, for every satoshi. At the same time, satoshis do not lose their properties – they can still be sent or spent. But NFTs on Bitcoin cannot be called full-fledged NFTs. They are called ordinals or artifacts. That is, on Bitcoin it is more likely to be attached metadata rather than individual tokens. While NFTs on smart contracts contain only a link to the storage location of the NFT – an address in the blockchain,” the expert explained the difference between NFTs on Bitcoin and on smart contracts that are used in Ethereum.

To transfer an ordinal (NFT), you can use a full node and an Ord wallet or Emblem vault. The first method provides direct transfer between users, the second provides the opportunity to create storage on the Ethereum blockchain with subsequent sale through an NFT marketplace.

However, an unfinished infrastructure creates the risk of losing satoshis—you can easily send Bitcoin by mistakenly paying for it with an NFT. In addition, the risk of fraud cannot be excluded. And this is not to mention the possible overload and increased cost of transactions during the wholesale transfer of NFTs.

When investing in such assets, you need to understand that these are still risky investments. Early collections may be forgotten if new, more interesting projects appear.

But if the Ordinals protocol is successful and attracts attention, then the first collections could become a sign of prestige for collectors. Their value can increase significantly, like CryptoPunks or Bored Ape Yacht Club.

Vladimir Okhotnikov believes that the situation with Bitcoin is another attempt to inflate the hype around the blockchain: “Personally, I am of the opinion that Bitcoin is a tool for storing value, and not for making money. All these innovations are unlikely to bring the expected results.”

Indeed, although Bitcoin was created as a decentralized payment system, attempts to turn the blockchain into a tool for getting rich contradict the original idea. Its main value is in the reliable storage of value, and not in speculation.

Once again, we tirelessly say: when investing in this asset, you need to understand that it is very risky and unstable. It is used not only for legal purposes, but also for illegal activities – money laundering, sanctions evasion, extortion, and more. Therefore, investors should carefully consider the risks before investing.

Although one thing cannot be refuted – the blockchain has made it possible to take a different look at reality: after all, now you can create a system in which no one can interfere. And Nayib Bukele seems not to have chickened out.

5 Things You Need to Know About Asbestos

Photo by National Cancer Institute on Unsplash

Asbestos seems to have a split personality. While it’s a naturally occurring mineral that is heat-, chemical-, and fire-resistant, asbestos is also a cancer-causing agent that you should avoid.

The problem is that products for soundproofing, insulation, fireproofing, and roofing used to contain asbestos. It’s only been in the past few decades that there’s been a connection between asbestos exposure and severe health complications. The most serious health complication stemming from asbestos exposure is mesothelioma, a rare and aggressive cancer.

So, asbestos is something you need to know about. Here are five specific things to consider.

1. All Kinds of Asbestos Can Cause Cancer

Asbestos exposure can lead to cancer. In fact, all forms of asbestos are carcinogenic, so there’s a real risk of developing mesothelioma, lung cancer, ovarian cancer, laryngeal cancer, colorectal cancer, and other types of cancer. That’s one reason to take asbestos dangers seriously.

One problem is that symptoms often mimic the symptoms of less severe health issues. And it’s also worth noting that symptoms of something like mesothelioma can take decades to materialize after initial asbestos exposure. Tobacco use — combined with asbestos exposure — can also increase cancer risks. By the time a doctor makes a diagnosis, there’s often little they can do.

2. Asbestos Exposure Risks Are Higher for People in Certain Industries

There was a time when materials used in homes contained asbestos. People in the home and structure renovation industry face higher risks, since they may have dealt with materials in the space. But those aren’t the only people with heightened risks. People in sectors like ship repair, construction, car repair, smelting, pulp and paper, and refining also face higher risks since they likely handled or worked around products with asbestos.

Of course, the U.S. banned asbestos decades ago, so people in higher-risk industries will likely only be at risk if they worked in these sectors before the asbestos ban.

3. It Usually Takes Decades for Cancer to Develop After Asbestos Exposure

One reason to be careful about asbestos exposure is it can take 10 to 40 years after exposure to get cancer. Most people are diagnosed with mesothelioma after it’s already reached an advanced stage, which means there are limited options to treat patients.

That’s not to say that treatment can’t make a difference. It can help to give the patient a longer life expectancy. But it’s worth noting that life expectancy after a diagnosis usually falls in the 18-to-24-month range — even after treatment.  It’s a rare form of cancer with no cure. Considering that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, your best bet is to avoid exposure.

4. Second-Hand Asbestos Exposure Is Possible

Another problem to be aware of is the potential for second-hand exposure to asbestos fibers. So, if you live in the same house with someone working in a space where asbestos is present, you face contamination risks. Asbestos fibers can dislodge from one person’s clothing and become airborne. Once you breathe in these fibers, this second-hand asbestos exposure can cause issues.

5. Various Symptoms May Point to Asbestos-Related Cancer

You must know about symptoms that may point to diseases related to asbestos exposure. Common symptoms include, but aren’t limited to, weight loss, difficulty swallowing, shortness of breath, loss of appetite, and chest pain. If you’ve been exposed to asbestos and experience any of these symptoms, contact your primary healthcare provider.

These are five things about asbestos exposure that you should know about. Asbestos is nothing to fool around with. Going in for screening tests and following up if there are any problems down the road will give you a fighting chance.

An Introduction to Digital ADA Compliance

When people talk about “accessibility”, they usually refer to physical infrastructure such as curb cuts, ramps, elevators, and other accommodations. However, as universities expand their online presence, digital accessibility has also become the topic of much discussion, especially as the definition of website accessibility seems to be unclear, particularly within the academe.

This article will discuss the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in relation to websites and other digital properties, particularly in the context of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). It will also discuss why ADA compliance is no longer a mere option but a legal requirement for academic institutions that serve the general public.

What does the ADA say about websites?

Much of the confusion surrounding website accessibility comes from the fact that the ADA itself is silent about websites, apps, and other digital products. However, the US Department of Justice, through the ADA website, states that the law applies to websites operated by both government agencies and private entities. Since people are increasingly going online for public services and other needs, any barriers to accessibility in websites and apps should be removed so that people with and without disabilities can have equal access to these services.

For instance, an individual with disabilities should be able to apply for business licenses, file taxes, attend town hall meetings, and register for classes at the local community college. They should also be able to order a pizza, buy tickets for the homecoming game, shop for school gear, or watch public lectures without encountering any hindrances. All of these are possible through observing the WCAG, which the ADA website recommends as a helpful standard for digital accessibility.

Why should you comply with the ADA?

Complying with the ADA brings with it a host of benefits. First, it protects your website from potential accessibility lawsuits. The number of accessibility lawsuits filed in 2023 alone was expected to breach 4,200, and with more people becoming aware of digital accessibility rights, that number is expected to rise further. Top-ranked universities have found out the hard way that they are not immune to these lawsuits. For instance, both Harvard and MIT have recently been the subject of ADA-related lawsuits that resulted in costly settlements and an internal reckoning about the role that accessibility plays in disseminating information.

Aside from protection from lawsuits, ADA compliance has other positive effects. Studies show that entities with accessible websites perform better in terms of traffic, bounce rates, customer retention, and sales. Individuals with disabilities comprise around 20% of the US population, and accommodating their needs will allow your organization to tap into an underserved market.

Complying with WCAG standards will also give your website a boost when it comes to search engine rankings and visibility. Google and other search engines take accessibility very seriously, especially since they are in the process of optimizing algorithms for voice searches. A website that a screen reader user can browse easily will perform better in search results than another website that is not optimized for screen readers. You can achieve partial WCAG and ADA compliance by adding headings and subheadings, alt text, and support for screen readers and keyboard navigation, among success criteria.

ADA compliance: Your path towards full accessibility

While your institution might have invested heavily in physical accessibility infrastructure, it’s also important to remember that digital accessibility is a crucial component of campus inclusivity. The ADA itself might be silent about what makes a website accessible, but following the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines is a good starting point. WCAG compliance and ADA compliance are so closely linked that complying with the former almost certainly assures your institution will be protected from accessibility lawsuits while enjoying all the benefits of accessibility.

Technology and glass restoration techniques are developing together. New materials and techniques are always being developed to improve the strength and appearance of glass that has been repaired. Glass repair businesses need to keep up with these developments in order to provide their clients with solutions that match their changing needs in a city that values growth.

Restoration

Putting aside the technicalities, glass repair in NYC is a restoration process. In other words, it’s the restoration of views, natural light, and a space’s artistic integrity. Not only should the shattered glass be fixed, but the glass should be restored to its original splendor, with the mended region being carefully blended in with the surrounding surface.

Transparency

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is JADKxFv3nW-UH2c_NY4xP76XxVM3zHmZbVBUrstHjYMMmGsoRrvwyd9LnIojVqXoA0-XJaQw3cduPpVff_p8vZEZRemFzPvfyFiPWkvxe4VlqaIg_UZZ-odXf0LEZTtmy-slMd5Adn3iVjLp_L0O_p0

Transparency is a characteristic inherent to both glass and reputable glass repair services. Consumers are interested in knowing the precise extent of the damage, the cost, and the time frame for completion of the repairs. The client and the service provider will feel more confident in one another when there is open communication, which will ensure a successful and efficient repair process.

Assurance

A reputable glass repair service in NYC provides assurance to its clients. Assurance that the repair will be conducted with the utmost care, using high-quality materials that guarantee longevity. This assurance extends to post-repair support, with warranties and follow-up inspections to ensure the continued well-being of the repaired glass.

Conclusion

Reliable glass repair services are crucial in New York City’s dynamic terrain, where glass is an integral element of the skyline and buildings themselves. What sets great services apart is the combination of knowledge, accuracy, creativity, and openness. The restoration of glass is not just a technical process but a commitment to preserving the clarity and beauty that define the very essence of the city that never sleeps.

Are You Finding Student Life Expensive?

Embarking on the student journey often comes with the excitement of independence and new experiences, but it can also bring a stark realization: student life can be expensive. From tuition fees to living costs, managing finances becomes a crucial part of the university experience.

Why is it So Expensive?

Student life is just expensive. From the minute they sign the student loan agreement, the costs begin to add up. Does that stop students and student life? Absolutely not.

The Most Expensive Parts of Student Life

There are the obvious tuition fees. The average college tuition fee in the US is $10,388 for a public college and $38,185 for a private college. Then there are student loans that students don’t even think about, living costs, lifestyle costs, and more. Accommodation often eats up a significant portion of a student’s budget.

Then there are the unexpected expensive expenses, like textbooks. And if you want to maintain a social life, you’ll soon run out of money. Students must find ways to make it cheaper.

Making It Cheaper

You can make it cheaper by managing your money. Use apps that connect to your bank account to track to see how much you spend. And by spending, we mean spending on things you shouldn’t spend.

Or if you’re struggling, scholarships (not easy to get), grants, and part-time jobs will help. Yes, you can work and be a student.

Most universities will offer financial advice and support services to help students manage their budgets effectively. You can also think about utilizing student discounts, planning meals, or using meal delivery services (you can get an organic meal kit delivery or vegan) and more. There are tons of things you can do.

Do Students Waste Money?

Yes, students waste money. Be honest with yourselves! Well, everyone does; it’s not just students. You’ll find yourself doing it as an adult. It’s easy to fall into the trap of impulsive spending. Or just spending too much without realizing it.

Still, not all spending is wasteful. It’s good to invest money in experiences, joining clubs, and just living life. But make sure you have a limit – it sucks running out of money and not having anything to do.
